The main uncertainty at present remains the GFC and its aftermath. Although there is evidence of recovery there has been widespread stimulation by governments and Central Banks. As this stimulation is wound back it is possible that the recovery will falter. This requires close monitoring

Jet fuel prices have had a critical influence on airline and route decisions over the past five years. Prices which fell from a peak of USD166.48 per barrel in July 2008 to a low of USD52.78 by February 2009 again increased rapidly into 2011. Unrest across Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain, Jordan, Syria and Libya was a contributing factor to this increase.
