School Holiday Periods

 

School holidays, while significantly affecting travel patterns, are difficult to document. These holiday periods often vary considerably within countries and are subject to change. Most countries do however have one main school holiday period:  

Australia - mid/end-December to end-January

Canada – July/August

China – July/August

Fiji – early-December to end-January

France – July/August

Germany – end-July to mid-September 

Hong Kong - July and August

India - early-May to early-July (Delhi); mid-April to early-June (Mumbai)

Indonesia - two weeks in July

Korea – July/August 

Japan - approximately 40 days from July 20 to August 31

Malaysia - mid-November to early-January

New Zealand - mid-December to early-February*

Philippines - end-March to early-June

Singapore - end-May to end-June and mid-November to end-December

Taiwan - end-January to end-February and end-June to end-August 

Thailand - end-March to mid- May

UK - mid-July to early-September

US - mid-June to early-September.

 * NZ school terms and holidays were changed in 2006. The school year now begins in February, near Waitangi Day (February 6), and finishes closer to Christmas.
